Ring in 2027 Legally: New Year’s Eve Is a Fireworks Holiday in Ohio

Fireworks aren’t just for the Fourth of July. In our home state of Ohio, New Year’s Eve is one of the holidays when you can legally set off consumer fireworks.

State law allows them from 4 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, then from 12 a.m. to 1 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on New Year’s Day. That means you can count down to midnight and still have an hour to celebrate after the ball drops.

efore you light anything, check your local rules. Ohio cities, villages, and townships can shorten these hours or ban consumer fireworks altogether. If they do, the local law applies. You’ll also need to stay on your own property or get the owner’s permission to use theirs.

Not in Ohio? Fireworks laws vary from state to state, so check your state and local laws before you plan your show.

Once you know you’re good to go, order your booms early so they’re ready well before December 31. New Year’s Eve only comes once a year, and you won’t want to spend it waiting on a delivery.
